OVERVIEW

Sundiata Keita, often referred to as the "Lion King of Mali," was a legendary figure in West African history. Born in the early 13th century in the Mali Empire, Sundiata became a remarkable warrior and leader. He eventually led a rebellion against the oppressive Sosso king, Sumanguru Kante, and succeeded in establishing the Mali Empire around 1235.

Sundiata's legacy extends beyond his military achievements. He is celebrated for his wisdom, leadership skills, and his commitment to justice and unity. His reign marked a golden era for Mali, characterized by economic growth, cultural flourishing, and the promotion of Islam. The epic of Sundiata, known as the "Epic of Sundiata" or "Epic of Mali," has been passed down through generations and highlights his journey, struggles, and triumphs.

Sundiata Keita's legacy endures as a symbol of resilience, courage, and the ability to rise above adversity, leaving an indelible mark on the history and culture of West Africa.
